Cease to Amaze
Sometimes it just seems a little overdone, beer aged in bourbon barrels. Everybody with a brewery and a barrel is doing them. But there was a time when it wasn’t as ubiquitous – you needed money, you needed time, and space, and a connection. And those first ones you tried – Curioux, Abyss, Bourbon County (RIP) – remain vividly ingrained in your memory. Perhaps that’s why we keep making them – chasing that rush of your first, the best. Or not. Either way, we laid this beer down in 4 barrels from Heaven Hill distillery and kept them in our cooler for 13 months – tasting every other month or so, topping them off with fresh beer – until we decided it was time. A roasty, medium bodied base beer picked up notes of vanilla, dark cocoa, melted caramel and toasted coconut, and a kiss of brown sugar covered strawberries. All from the barrel, adjuncts need not apply.
