For the final collaboration celebrating our 10 years of existence, we invited Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River & John Mallett (formerly of Bell’s) to make a beer with us. If you just paused to process that last sentence….SAME. We never thought we’d have two of the most important brewmasters in the history of craft beer help make a beer with us, but here we are. And not just any beer…we wanted to merge the recipes of their most iconic IPAs: Pliny the Elder and Two Hearted. If you’re a craft beer enthusiast, or even just one that dabbles, you’ve probably heard of both of these beers – the national popularity of today’s IPA was built upon their shoulders. And while both recipes have evolved over the years – less malt! more hops! – we made sure to keep the hop bill (Simcoe for PtE, Centennial for 2H) as pure as ever, with both Vinnie and John hand selecting and blending lots from our cooler. The end result is notes of dark cherry, ruby red grapefruit, pomegranate and pine needles, along with a healthy dose of gratitude.
