Tall Poppy

There’s a saying in New Zealand (prob elsewhere too) that caught our fancy on our last trip: “Don’t be a tall poppy.” It’s very cute, especially when said with an accent. But what does that even mean? We’ll tell you! It means don’t be so successful to stand above the crowd – which, um, is definitely not an American sentiment, especially in the entrepreneurial realm. Still, it’s an interesting cultural difference between similar societies – one that places more significance in the success of the greater good versus one that specifically rewards individuals. Think about that…while you enjoy this tropical west coast bomb cyclone loaded with New Zealand’s choicest Nelson Sauvin & Nectaron hops.
