2018 World Beer Cup Bronze Fresh or Wet Hop Ale
Fresh Frozen
We brew lots of wet hop beers every harvest. There’s no other beers we love to make more. But that time window is fleeting – roughly 6 weeks of harvest and then we’re all left wanting and waiting til next year. So we tried something out. We gassed, vacuum-sealed and froze 5# of Citra from Tributary Farms within minutes of getting the hops back from the farm. It was 3 hrs from picker to freezer. Could we seal in the wetness magic and save it for a later date? You can be the judge of that….but we think “Yes. Well, kinda. There’s a leafy chewyness there, and some added citrus and berry oils, but it’s not as bright and potent as the fresh wetness.”
